How is all began.

As an equine Bodyworker, I see sore backs. A lot. In searching for a better western saddle pad solution, I found that there are no good pad designs that incorporate spinal clearance within the pad. Taking a cue from the English rising world, I developed a pad that incorporates appropriate padding with no contact along the spine of the horse. To understand why this is important, we need to examine the design of the typical western saddle. Western saddles have a gullet in about the first third of the front of the saddle. Then about under the front of the seat and all the way to the back of the skirt, there is no gullet. The weight bearing portion of the saddle (where you sit) lays against the horse’s back. With a traditional western pad, the pad also lays against the spine. This creates pressure along the spine. And with it much soreness. The proper weight bearing structure of the horse should be the muscles and not the spine. Putting direct pressure along the spine can exacerbate all kinds of issues such as kissing spine and arthritis. With this in mind, Divine Spine was born!
